U&I:Me&U

I come from a place where people are broken.  Families split, kids hurt.  Hope is deferred.  Dreams are fragile.  It may look like people have the pieces together, but inside they are gripping threads.  A child longed for, yet not granted.  A loved one missing, a fairy tale unanswered.  I fear, I cry, I hurt.

You come from a place where people are broken.  Families split, kids hurt.  Hope is deferred.  Dreams are fragile.  It may look like people have the pieces together, but inside they are gripping threads.  A child longed for, who turned to the streets.  A loved one missing, “mom” cursing you out.  You fear, you cry, you hurt.

I go to a place where people are healed.  Relationships restored, and a Father’s touch.  Faith: trust giving hope.  Purpose is given.  It may look like people have the pieces together, but inside they relinquish, sustained by an outside source.  He longed for one child, and gave another.  Love demonstrated.  No fear, perfect joy, inconceivable peace.

Yes, we are alike, and yes, we are different.  We look different, talk different, sing different, think different.  I wouldn’t want to trade with you, but I’m no better than you.  I may never understand you, but I’ll try.  And I can introduce you to the One who can understand you.  Who does understand you.  And will you help me to understand?  Can we be friends?

I am currently working as an intern at Urban Connections, an inner-city, faith-based non-profit on the near east side of Columbus, OH.
